DALI IMMASIVE
SOMATIC RESIDENCY

Known for its Bai culture, old town, mountain landscapes, and long-standing creative community, Dali offers a unique atmosphere unlike most cities in China.

This residency is a collaboration between Flow Art Space in Dali and Living Somatic project inspired by the spirit of the Japan Experimental Dance Residency in Nature and Studio.

Mikis Tapaswi (JAPAN) will be guiding 「身体仪式 - SOMATIC RITUAL -」 throughout the 10-day residency.

The residency is divided into two parts: Part One consists of a full-day workshop with Mikis, whilst Part Two comprises a half-day Contact improvisation practice and a half-day collaborative workshop session.

「身体仪式 - SOMATIC RITUAL -」 is a transformative ritual through immersive somatic practice, integrating bodywork, movement, improvisation, artistic research, and embodied listening.

Part 1
“Somatic Reorganization”

This workshop integrates bodywork, meditation, movement, self-care and verbal reflection whilst cultivating practices of embodied listening through individual, partner and group practices, exploring the processes of “Release,” “Relax,” “Realise” and “Redirect.”

With bodywork as the core practice, and drawing on perspectives from body mechanics and biodynamics, the programme is designed to enable even beginners to offer bodywork sessions to others after the workshop.

Through simple yet highly effective techniques, participants will explore touch that attunes to the intelligence and intuition already present within the body, alongside boundaries between practitioner and receiver, spatial awareness of the surrounding environment, and forms of presence that support safety without disrupting the process — all whilst integrating movement and self-care perspectives.

### 息る — Ikiru(Breathing, Living)

In the word 呼吸 (“breathing”), exhalation carries the sense of inviting space back into the body.

Through breathwork, self-care practices and bodywork techniques for the abdomen, diaphragm and chest, participants will explore practical approaches to release tension, deepen respiration and cultivate embodied presence.

### 揺れる — Yureru(Shaking, Swaying)

Participants will explore a variety of shaking and swaying techniques based on principles of fascial tensegrity and rhythmic movement.

These practices may support nervous system regulation and relaxation, whilst developing practical approaches for working with areas of tension, restriction and fascial adhesion throughout the body.

### 回る — Mawaru(Spiraling, Circling)

Drawing inspiration from spirals and curved movement found throughout nature, participants will explore rotational and circular principles within bodywork beyond linear pushing and pulling techniques.

These spiralling approaches invite coordination, whole-body integration and a primitive sense of harmony and oneness within movement and touch.

Part 2
"Somatic Emergence"

Part Two will focus on exploration, expression, creation and relation, culminating in a performance on the final day.
These processes will be documented through video for artistic and archival purposes.

Several performance formats — such as solo, duo, trio and group — will be established in advance. Provided the work remains rooted in somatics, both the format and venue are open, and participants may choose whether their work is improvised, structured, or pre-choreographed.

Every morning, as part of a meditative ritual, we will engage in a three-hour focused Contact Improvisation practice to cultivate attention, bodily awareness, spatial perception and relational sensitivity.

Afternoon sessions will function as collaborative performance workshops led by invited facilitators and artists across a range of indoor and outdoor environments. Participants will explore improvisation, composition, somatic performance research, video, sound and site-responsive practices as part of a creative process that will gradually unfold into the final performance.

The schedule for the Part two workshop is as follows :
